ABOUT

As an artist, teacher, and musician, I am always seeking to learn more about people and artistic expression. To understand other cultures, I submerge myself in their environments and become a participant in their daily life. I value exposure to the beautiful variations among humans, places, and societies.

In the classroom, I provide opportunities for students to discuss and discover the differences and similarities amongst reading materials, art, and artists. As a class, we undertake the course’s journey benefiting from different perspectives, decisions, conditions, and guidance that arise within individual and group learning.
Teaching and creating art has been my tool for aiding adult and children’s exploration of themselves, others, and their environments. As an art educator, I aim to help others recognize visual arts as an essential means of nonverbal communication, as well as a language that unites different cultures past and present.

My goal as a teacher and artist is to help others discover the magic of art.  Art allows for one to develop creativity, resourcefulness and the ability to conceive the novel, the dissimilar, and the unidentified. I also believe it is essential to remain a working artist and expose myself to art forms and practices within contemporary through ancient times. In turn, practicing different techniques and retaining artistic knowledge, allows me to present a well-rounded curriculum that encourages all forms of creative expression within a classroom. Being both an artist and a teacher, has accentuated my ability to perceive, understand, and create art.
I take on the role of being a leader rather than an art expert in the classroom. An optimal learning environment is a place where students feel comfortable in expressing their ideas and where students are inspired to learn more throughout the course. Motivating and facilitating learning becomes easier when the student feels heard and respected. Ultimately, I hope my students leave my classroom with an expanded connection to art and the desire to discover more artistic experiences. The art world has had a substantial impact on my own life, and I strive to relay that influence to my students as well.
